Retd. Professor
Béla Bacsó was Professor and Head of the Department of Aesthetics (1997-2016) at the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest. Previously he was Head of the Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies (2000-2012) and President of the Hungarian Philosophical Society (2010). He has translated Heidegger and Gadamer and numerous other authors into Hungarian.
His main fields of research were aesthetic theory (Aristotle, Herder, Schelling, Nietzsche,Husserl, Heidegger, Gadamer etc.) and phenomenological and existential hermeneutics.
His Hungarian language publications include The Art of Understanding and Understanding of Art; Borderlines: Hermeneutical Essays; The Shadow of the Word: Understanding Paul Celan’s Poetry, Writing and Forgetting, “Live is Beautiful”: Interpretations to Art and Philosophy, Enduring trouble, most recently The Theory of Theory. (Kijárat P.H. 2009) as well as a collection of essays in German (Die Unvermeidbarkeit des Irrtums. Essays zur Hermeneutik , Junghans Verlag 1997).
