Prof Endre Szécsényi

Professor

 

Endre SZÉCSÉNYI graduated M.A. in Aesthetics and Hungarian Philology (Literature and Linguistics) from the University of Pécs in 1990. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2001, and his habilitation in 2010 from ELTE Eötvös Loránd University.

He taught as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Pécs (1990-1994) and was Assistant Professor in Literature at the Kecskemét Teacher Training College (1991-1994). He held a Senior Assistant Professorship at the Department of Aesthetics of the University of Pécs between 1995 and 2002, and in the Institute of Theoretical Studies of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design between 2003 and 2005. He has taught in the Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies of ELTE Eötvös Loránd University as a Recurrent Visiting Lecturer (1999-2002), as Senior Assistant Professor (2003-2006) and as Associate Professor since 2006. Although being on long absence, he was promoted Full Professor (in Hungary, its necessary precondition is the title of “University Professor” he was awarded by the President of Hungary) in 2015. He was Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (2014-2016), then Honorary Research Fellow (2016-2024) in RIISS at the University of Aberdeen.

He has held several research fellowships abroad including Mellon Fellowship (twice) and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Intra-European Fellowship, e.g., in IASH (Edinburgh), NIAS (Wassenaar), IWM (Vienna), RIISS (Aberdeen). He was one of the editors of BUKSZ – Budapest Review of Books between 1997 and 2014, and he has been the series-editor of the Laokoón Könyvek (Laocoön Books) series of L’Harmattan Publishing House since 2008. In 2020 he initiated the establishment of the Research Centre for Aesthetics, Nature and Environment (RCANE). He is the Principal Investigator of the three-year research project “Perspectives in Environmental Aesthetics” (OTKA 143294) in RCANE (2022-2025).
